Make-ups will be held—Monday May 3rd at Jefferson School.  Make-up evaluations will not be grouped by age.

Age group Selection:  Most Baseball Associations that Summit “Summer League” teams will compete against follow the “Babe Ruth Age” guidelines which set the age group based on the player’s birth date as of April 30 of the respective year. The SJBB Summer League Committee would like to encourage all players to use these age guidelines when selecting the age group to play in.  The committee will allow for players to “play with their grade” Players can play with their grade if they are younger then the “Babe Ruth Age” (Example:  Alex 3rd grade-birth date 6/01/01, Alex can play U9 with the 3rd grade or U8 based on age.).

PLAYER MUST DECLARE INTENT FOR AGE GROUP PLACEMENT BEFORE TRYOUTS, Otherwise they will be grouped by grade.  Any player trying out for a tournament team for their age group, that does not make the tournament team will then be placed on the green team in that age group. Any special requests regarding age placement or grade placement must be made in writing to the Summer League Committee, before tryouts.

Tryouts are Mandatory for all Players.  Any player that cannot attend tryouts due to illness, injury or other emergency must contact the SJBB Summer Baseball Committee at   before the scheduled tryout time. Any player who cannot make the tryout date or the make-up date, without directly contacting the SJBB summer baseball committee, will not be placed on a tournament level team. Tryout sessions will last about 60 minutes.  All Players should bring their own glove, cleats are advised, and bring water!

Summer Evaluation Process and Team formation Procedures:  In an effort to continually enhance the summer travel team evaluation process, SJBB is implementing some new procedures for the 2010 tryouts.  SJBB has retained an outside, independent professional baseball evaluator who will provide analysis of each player’s performance. Pitchers and catchers will be assessed separately as pitchers and catchers.  Volunteers consisting of current SJBB coaches and volunteers will be on hand to assist the independent evaluator with check-in and player organization. Spring recreation coaches will also submit player evaluations. After consideration of all data submitted, rosters for the summer season’s teams are created by the Summer League Committee in partnership with identified volunteer coaches from each age group.  In general, the rosters are created taking the top 7 players based on the skill evaluations and coaches evaluations, subject to each teams pitcher and catcher needs.  The remaining roster places are filled by coach selections.  All rosters are then submitted to the SJBB Summer Committee for approval.  All tryout and player evaluation information is kept confidential and is not available for dissemination.  SJBB attempts to field a sufficient number of teams for each age group so that all candidates will be placed on a team. SJBB anticipates at least one tournament team for each age group followed by other teams. This policy is subject to external factors including a sufficient number of players and coaches.

Team Postings: Parents will be contacted by e-mail on or about June 1st as to their child’s team placement.  Teams will also be posted on the SJBB web-site.  Any questions regarding your child’s status are to be directed to the Summer League Committee.  If placed on a travel team it is expected that your child will play on that team assigned.

Please feel free to contact the committee with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Summit Junior Baseball Summer League Committee.
